Since 1870, a period spanning five generations, the family Eguren has been dedicated to the cultivation of vines and the production and ageing of the best wines of La Rioja. They have been able to pass down from father to son both knowledge and tradition yet, at the same time, adapting them to the new advances in technology and always maintaining their respect for the soil and the vine. The Eguren family and their wineries enjoy prestige in Spain and Internationally The renowned Spanish wine magazine „PENIN“, awarded Teso La Monja in their 2012/2013 issue as best winery of Spain.
Their Tesa La Monja estate is located in the Toro region and is a state-of-the-art winery, designed to produce exclusively prestigious wines. The grape vines of the vineyards are averaging an age of 100 years. The yields are low, there is a second selection of grapes in the winery – perfect conditions to create truly great, exceptional and very individual wines. To celebrate its foundation in 1901, the BASF winecellar created in association with Teso la Monja this rare and special wine, “Espiritu 1901”. A part of the grapes is harvested from pre-Phylloxera Toro Vineyards planted in 1901. A great example of how tradition and modernity always converge, particularly in the wine world! This deep red wine will fill your nose with intense fruit and fresh oak aromas. Expressive notes of plums, red currants, and cocoa. Slightly floral notes with a touch of licorice. The oak is very evident. A long-lasting taste. Not ready yet, but it will be a wine of greatness ... soon!
