The Clare Valley is one of Australia’s oldest wine regions. It lies in the Mid North of South Australia, approximately 120 km north of Adelaide. Its Mediterranean-style climate is ideal for the production of quality Riesling, Chardonnay, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Semillon and Merlot grapes. Winemaker Kevin Mitchell purchased the Kilikanoon property in South Australia’s scenic Clare Valley in 1997 with a dream of creating his own brand. The first Kilikanoon branded wines were from the 1997 vintage and released in 1998.
The fruit concentration of this wine is very high. Notes of plums are dominate. In the finish you can find aromas of vanilla from the aging in oak barrique. Some of the grapes for this wine originate from the Attunga vineyard in the Clare Valley. This vineyard was planted in 1865, the same year that BASF was established.
