Germans love bubbles! Actually our beer and wine-drinking nation is also the largest sparkling wine consumer worldwide. Round about 4 liters per person are enjoyed in one year – therefore it is no surprise that some German wineries have
specialized in producing fine sparkling wines. Among them winery Wilhelmshof, located in the village of Siebeldingen in southern Palatinate, is definitely a first class producer. The family-run estate only does a small production of
approximate 40 000 bottles a year but still they have been awarded “best sparkling wine producer of Germany” countless times. Their Blanc de Noir is made of Pinot Noir grapes, a variety that is also widely planted in the Champagne region. After
vinifying the white-pressed juice, the wine
undergoes a second fermentation in the bottle (so called méthode champenoise) and this is where the magic happens: The carbon dioxide resulting from the fermentation dissolves into the wine and – voilà – the bubbles are in! This fruity and creamy Blanc de Noir is your perfect aperitif to enjoy at special occasions or just every day.
