Since 1648, the winery Künstler has been family-owned. Until the end of the Second World War, the family managed their winery 80 km north of Vienna in the municipality Untertannowitz, South Moravia. In 1965, after expropriation and expulsion from the Czech Republic, Franz Künstler refounded his winery in Hochheim am Main/Rheingau. Due to his strict quality philosophy, many successes were achieved immediately. Since 1992, his son Gunter has been managing the winery and continues his father's philosophy. In 1996, Gunter bought the winery Geheimrat Aschrott'sche Erben in Hochheim and thus secured high-ranking vineyard locations such as Domdechaney, Kirchenstück, Hölle and Stielweg. These vineyards – mostly planted with 50-60-year-old vines – are a unique, priceless guarantee for outstanding Rieslings. Künstler is today one of the most renowned VDP wineries VDP - Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter (Union of German quality wine makers) in Germany.
The Hochheimer Riesling Alte Reben opens with a fruity scent of pineapple, apricots, passion fruit and meadow herbs and goes very well with cooked seafood or white wine sauces.
